7K social pensioners in Surallah get gov’t stipend

SURALLAH, South Cotabato (PIA) –All indigent senior citizens in Surallah have received their latest social pension from the government.

A total of 7,269 senior citizens from the town’s 17 barangays already got their allowance, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) reported on Friday.

Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, the MSWDO had to adjust their strategy and conducted the payout down to the barangay level.

This is also to observe strict health protocols and avoid mass gatherings especially that senior citizens are more susceptible to get the virus.

The social pension as mandated in the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 seeks to augment the daily subsistence and medical needs of indigent elderly to improve their living condition.

Annually, qualified recipients are entitled to a P6,000 stipend to be given in two tranches. (with reports from CDIP Surallah)
