Youths light candles to commemorate Inopacan Massacre

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) -- Members of the Kasumbungan Youth Club (KYC) in Barangay Larrazabal, this town, lighted candles as a way of commemorating the Inopacan Massacre.

The candle lighting activity, held on August 28 infront of the 806th CDC administration building in Barangay Larrazabal, is in commemoration of the 15th year of the discovery of mass grave where more than 100 civilians were killed in mass execution perpetrated by the New People's Army (NPA) in the 1980s.

Jhon Vincent Bordon, KYC president, led the candle lighting activity.

Bordon was joined in by some 50 individuals composed of his fellow KYC members and the reservists headed by Jhon Paul Delfin, corps commander of BiPSU ROTC.

The activity was also participated in by the Biliran Retooled Community Service Program (RCSP) Biliran Team led by TSgt Jovito Campaner and 806th CDC led by SSgt Florindo Lapaz.

Cpl Jeff Orville Dongon of the Biliran RCSP Biliran Team also conducted a mass public information dissemination on the Inopacan Massacre on August 28, using a public address system mounted in a military truck.

The mass public information campaign started from the junction at Barangay Lemon, Capoocan, Leyte and proceeded to the towns of Leyte, Leyte, Biliran and Naval in Biliran province.

The conduct of the mass public information campaign is one way of informing and reminding the public on the barbaric activities of the terrorist organization, the CPP-NPA-NDF, on the mass killings of civilians in Leyte. (LDL/RSV/PIA-8/Bilran with reports and photos by Busilak Company)
