DOST, DepEd strengthen promotion of S&T in NCot schools

KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato (PIA)—The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) XII and the Department of Education Schools Division of Cotabato recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on promoting the adoption of DOST’s STARBOOKS in elementary and secondary schools in the province.

With the MOU, pupils and students, particularly those in far-flung areas will be provided access to information on science, technology, and innovation.

“DOST-STARBOOKS will be installed and deployed to all DepEd schools in the province. We will conduct a meeting with DepEd Cotabato Division for the phase 1 of the deployment,” DOST Provincial Director Michael Ty Mayo said.

Mayo added that the DOST already deployed and installed over 30 STARBOOKS in different schools in the province.

STARBOOKS or the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk Station is the first Philippine digital science library.

The one-stop S&T information source is accessible even without the internet.  It provides contents on agriculture, medicine, education, engineering, architecture, geography, anthropology, archeology, social sciences, and many others.

Meanwhile, DOST XII Regional Director Sammy Malawan expressed optimism that with the full rollout of the project in all schools in the province, Science and Technology will be further promoted and highlighted as driving force for a progressive community. (With reports from DOST-North Cotabato)
