QUEZON CITY -- National Library of the Philippines (NLP) celebrates the 31st Library and Information Services Month through a virtual opening ceremony Wednesday, November 3.
This year's theme, “Libraries Building ROADS: Readers, Opportunities, Advocacies, Development, and Sustainability,” focuses on capturing the essence of the libraries’ role in attaining the SDGs promulgated in the UN 2030 Agenda and integrated into our Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022.
“Libraries partook in achieving sustainable development goals or the global goals. Libraries encourage consciousness among readers, develop the medium of learning opportunities, assist in educational advocacies, support intellectual development and maintain information sustainability,” said NLP Director Cesar Gilbert Q. Adriano.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) Chairman Arsenio Nick Lizaso also said that by “recognizing the importance of passing down our culture, libraries perform one of the most vital functions by ensuring that our historical and cultural knowledge remain.”
However, libraries are not just static repositories; they are gateways to knowledge and culture, Lizaso added.
