40K capsules of Molnupiravir arrive in Manila

CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) -- Around 40,000 capsules of Molnupiravir that the Manila City Government has procured arrived in the nation's capital.

Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso led on Tuesday, November 23, the ceremonial turn-over of some capsules of the COVID-19 medicinal drug to Manila COVID-19 Field Hospital.

"Today, you are going to witness the first local government unit to acquire another breakthrough in making our people safe and cross finger, may awa ang Diyos, buhay ang tao habang nasa impeksyon ng COVID-19," Domagoso said.

"That is the purpose of the government - papanatagin ang katayuan at kalooban ng tao.

According to Domagoso, the procurement of the 40,000 capsules of the Molnupiravir would address the concern of hospitalization and hospital capacity both in Manila and the country.

The COVID-19 medicinal drug bottles were first delivered to the Sta. Ana Hospital where the some COVID-19 vaccines are also stored, before turning over some 120 bottles to Manila COVID-19 Field Hospital.

Each bottle of Molnupiravir contains about 40 capsules.

Kaya we must always do our best and let God do the rest," he added.

In response, Manila COVID-19 Field Hospital Director Dr. Arlene Dominguez thanked the city government for its continuous effort to protect the public from the virus.

To recall, the Manila City government has been procuring other anti-COVID-19 drugs like Remdesivir and Tocilizumab, all of which are given for free to the public.

According to Dr. Dominguez, the field hospital has tallied 3,300 recovered cases with zero mortality rate since the start of its operation. (Manila PIO/PIA-NCR)
