Librarians association observes 87th National Book Week

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – Philippine Librarians Association Inc. (PLAI) celebrated the 87th National Book Week Celebration through a virtual opening ceremony Wednesday, November 24.

With the theme “OUTcomes, OUTreach and OUTstanding Libraries Beyond Boundaries”, this year’s celebration focuses on outstanding practices and services of libraries and librarians in continuously enabling the love and appreciation of books and reading in this rapidly changing environment.

“One reason for the celebration of National Book Week is because reading of good books or the printed page is one of the most effective methods of bringing enlightenment within the reach of the largest possible number of people.,” said PLAI President Emma M. Rey.

Rey added that we should promote literacy because literacy has a significant role in transforming socially engaged society.

Meanwhile, National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) Chairman Arsenio Nick Lizaso said that good books provide the most crucial information for our development.

“They are not only excellent doors that we can use to immerse ourselves in a fictional world. They are also a reliable source of learning and wisdom that we can share with a friend,” Lizado added.

The National Book Week (NBW) is celebrated every November 24 to 30 by the virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 109 series of 1936.
