TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) –- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Eastern Visayas has reminded the public on the risks in using firecrackers and other pyrotechnic device this holiday season.
During the launching of Oplan Paalala Iwas Paputok campaign at the Tacloban City’s fire station apparatus area, Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Denaga, BFP regional director, advised the public not to engage in any fireworks display to avoid the dangers caused by pyrotechnics such as injuries, death, fire and other untoward incidents.
“We encourage everyone especially the children not to engage in any firecrackers display or usage to achieve a zero firecracker-related incident and safe Yuletide celebration” Denaga said.
Denaga said the launching is one of the initiated various campaign plans by the BFP to mitigate, if not totally eliminate, fire incidents and other accidents caused by firecrackers and pyrotechnics.
He urged everyone to use alternative method in welcoming the Yuletide season such as cans to create noise instead of firecrackers which may cause danger to the people and the community.
Various government agencies such as the Department of Health Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development, Philippine Information Agency and the Tacloban City Police Office, the private sector and other stakeholders have also shown their unwavering support to this endeavor.
Such campaign is governed by Executive Order No. 28 providing for the regulation and control of the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic device which was signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in 2017. (LDL/CBA/PIA-8)
