13 job seekers hired during DOLE-7 job fair

CEBU CITY, Cebu, Dec. 10 (PIA) -- At least 13 job applicants were hired on the spot during the “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan: A Blended Jobs and Business Fairs" of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 7 held at the Cebu Trade Hall, SM City Cebu on Dec. 8.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Atty. Marion Sevilla said the event was done with the combination of limited face-to-face and online.

The applicants were hired on-the-spot - or HOTS in DOLE parlance - by a leading apparel manufacturer of world-renowned sportswear and outdoor wear brand based at the Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) in Lapulapu City.

Those hired are mostly production workers, quality controllers, industrial engineers, building engineers, and sewing mechanics.

The number of HOTS could still potentially increase considering that there are around 29 nearly-hired applicants tallied during the job fair.

DOLE-7 will also closel monitor the status of the “near-hires” within the month for local employment and within 90 days for overseas employment.

Near-hires are jobseekers who are considered hired but would still need to submit additional or lacking requirements, or may need to attend further interviews or tests.

Applicants who will successfully get through the additional tests and interviews will potentially add the number of HOTS in a few days.

Sevilla shared that there were 3,146 jobs available, of which 1,545 were for local employment and 1,601 were needed abroad.

Sevilla thanked DOLE’s major partners who helped make the conduct of the event a success, namely: SM Supermalls led by Van Aberia for the free venue of the limited face-to-face job fair; Department of Information and Communications Technology led by Regional Director Frederick DC Amores; and PESO Cebu City led by PESO Manager Sheila May Daluz with the support of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.

The conduct of the “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan: A Blended Jobs and Business Fairs" was part of the celebration of DOLE’s 88th Founding Anniversary. (HFG/PIA7 with reports from DOLE7)
