LAOAG CITY, Dec 23 (PIA) -- An agri-ecotourism site opened at the municipality of Bacarra, Ilocos Norte on December 20.
The Coca Creek Agri-ecotourism site located in Barangay 32 Corocor, Bacarra is a collaborative project of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN), and the Local Government Unit of Bacarra.
In 2019, Bacarra LGU mobilized its eight barangays namely Bani, Pasngal, Cabuslingan, Corocos, Cabulalaan, Papias, Natba, and Calioet-libong to regularly clean the Coca Creek, while the BFAR donated fish pens to support local fish production. Further, the PGIN completed the construction of the embankment, floating restaurant, and a ticket booth.


According to Bacarra Mayor Fritzie Anne Kaye Dela Cruz-Gapasin, the project aims to revive the tourism in the municipality as well as to support a long-term and sustainable effort of communities to make productive use of the creek while managing and mitigating environmental risks.
The local chief executive lso highlighted the different activities in the Coca Creek such as a live band and pop-up stores every Friday, cafes, and floating cottages. (JCR/JPD/EJFG, PIA Ilocos Norte with reports from Mario Acosta/MMSU Intern)
