CEBU CITY, Cebu, Jan. 5 (PIA) -- After the onslaught of Typoon "Odette" in Central Visayas, the Bureau of Fire Protection Central Visayas (BFP-7) has been actively conducting disaster response activities to various storm-affected areas in the region.

BFP-7 has conducted water rationing, road clearing and flushing operations, and repacking of relief goods in coordination with other agencies to help the typhoon-affected residents in Central Visayas.

Fire trucks and personnel were deployed according to the water rationing requests of the local government units (LGUs) and for fire suppression.

BFP personnel also cut trees and debris using saws, bolt cutters, axes, chainsaws, and hydraulic cutting tools for their clearing operations.

To help the residents in their needs while the power restoration is ongoing, BFP-7 installed charging stations in three substations of Cebu City Fire offices which include Parian, San Nicolas, and Pahina Fire that can accommodate over 5,000 units per day.

They are continuously monitoring the evacuation centers and affected barangays and ensuring the availability of rescue, fire, and medical resources in the aftermath of Typhoon Odette.

BFP-7 has mandated its selected regional office personnel and newly absorbed fire officers to volunteer in repacking relief goods at the Department of Social Welfare and Development Warehouse in Labangon, Cebu City.

Concerned offices particularly in Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City have conducted ocular inspections, hazard assessments, and analysis regarding oil spill incidents that may occur as a result of the typhoon.

BFP-7 has also initiated an "Open Kitchen Program" which was conducted by its fire stations in Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental, municipalities of Larena and Enrique Villanueva in Siquijor, and the municipalities of Balamban, Consolacion, Minglanilla in Cebu and in the towns of Mabini and Dauis in Bohol.

During the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC-7) meeting  on Dec. 30, 2021, BFP-7 said they will continue the joint efforts with the RDRRMC in conducting more response activities to typhoon-hit areas and to extend further assistance to typhoon victims in the region.
