Imus City to curb Omicron transmission thru home mitigation

Imus City, Cavite (PIA) – Imus City Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi disclosed that the city government’s CoViD-19 countermeasure to curb the current surge in cases due to the omicron variant is its ‘Home Mitigation Program’ thru early detection and mitigation of confirmed positive cases.

The highly communicable Omicron CoVid-19 variant leaves no time for the usual processing of positive patients to be isolated in the city’s Isolation facilities thus, treatment and medication of symptoms which are generally none to mild or moderate would definitely diminish the chances of the further spread of the virus.

Mayor Maliksi said that part of the program is the early detection in households since transmissions occur within the family. Once the members of the household tested positive with the antigen test, they are immediately provided with medicines including Molnupiravir, the CoVid-19 drug that the city government recently purchased for the city’s most susceptible sector especially members of the A3 category or Persons with Comorbidities.

“Our focus is the first 5 days. It is vital that upon detection, the positive case should be given the proper medication to prevent the disease from getting severe and help the families who have no means to procure these medications,” Mayor Maliksi stated.

Barangay personnel were empowered to conduct tests for the early detection of positive cases in each barangay and be able to respond quickly according to established procedures.

The provision of medications thru Covid Care Kits was made part of the Incident Command System and were distributed to the 97 barangays in the city.

According to LtCol. Roy Castronuevo, Imus City Operations and Warning Division Officer, from detection of positive cases, assessment and evaluation by the CHO will determine the kind of CoVid Care kit to be provided.

Three sets of CoVid Care Kits were prepared for confirmed positive patients according to their symptoms manifested: Set 1 includes multivitamins for asymptomatic patients; Set 2 includes multivitamins and 4 other medicines for symptomatic positive cases and; Set 3 includes the Molnupiravir tablets aside from the other medications and multivitamins to address moderate to severe symptoms.

Mayor Maliksi reported that before the end of the year 2021, uptick in the number of CoVid-19 cases had already been observed.

The mayor said that from the lowest number of six Active cases, the number shoot up to the current 3,095 as of January 14, 2022 from the total recorded Confirmed cases of 22,384.

Meanwhile, the city government’s vaccination efforts had gone over and beyond the inoculation of the target population.

On January 11, 2022 the city government announced achieving herd immunity with 85.36% of target population were fully vaccinated. (Ruel Francisco with reports from Maliksi Live)
