QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The regional office of the Department of Environment & Natural Resources in the National Capital Region, through its Manila Bay Site Coordinating Management Office (MBSCMO) and the Metropolitan Environmental Office–North, distributed waste collection pushcarts to selected barangays in the Caloocan-Malabon-Navotas-Valenzuela (CAMANAVA) area last week.
The recipients of the pushcarts are, from Caloocan City, Barangays 162 and 183; from Malabon City, Barangays Baritan, Bayan-bayanan, and Barangay Concepcion; from Navotas City, Barangays Bagumbayan North, San Jose, and Sipac Almacen; and from Valenzuela City, Barangays Coloong and Wawang pulo.
Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan said the push carts were given to help the recipient barangays improve their collection and proper disposal of household waste in their respective jurisdiction.
Republic Act No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 has vested the responsibility of segregated collection and disposal of solid wastes to the local government.
“Some barangays, however, are having a difficult time providing such service to their constituents due to roads that are too small and unpassable for garbage trucks,” Caancan said.
“DENR NCR is providing the pushcarts to help barangays address the issue,” she added. (DENR-NCR/PIA-NCR)
