DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Jan. 24 (PIA) -- The Energy Development Corporation (EDC) has extended assistance to speed up the restoration of electricity services in the first district severely affected by Typhoon Odette.
EDC’s Southern Negros Geothermal Project (SNGP) coordinated with Negros Oriental Electric I Cooperative, Inc. (NORECO) for its inspection to help assess the extent of damage to power facilities and deployment of linemen in the areas of Bais City and the municipalities of Bindoy and Ayungon.
“The moment we knew their situation, I instructed my team to coordinate with NORECO I and offered help immediately. We assigned six teams composed of linemen and ground men and deployed four boom trucks," said EDC Negros Facility OIC Head Engr. Noel Tan.
The EDC has pledged to assist NORECO-I until Feb. 6 with its six teams rehabilitating and restoring the power lines heavily damaged by the typhoon.
NORECO I General Manager Juvileo Acabal thanked EDC for its assistance and support to NORECO I's power restoration efforts.
“We are so blessed and overwhelmed of the unselfish assistance and support from EDC as our partner in the energy industry,” said Acabal.
“The NORECO I Board of Directors and Management did not expect that EDC, an energy supplier, would extend to us this much. We only expect our fellow electric cooperatives across the country to help us," he added.
Task Force Kapatid (TFK) or electric cooperatives from different provinces in the country also sent line workers, equipment, and needed materials to help in the restoration of distribution systems in the first district areas.
TFK was reportedly in immediate activation, enabling electric coops (ECs) with normal operations to assist the other ECs affected by Typhoon Odette.
TFK launched in 2002 to assist each other during the onslaught of natural and man-made calamities like typhoons and earthquakes.
But with EDC as power generation supplier, NORECO I acknowledged its efforts in extending help to its customers. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental with reports from EDC)
