BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- The Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office (ESPPO) once more pushed its makakalikasan image through a tree planting event conducted in Giporlos, Eastern Samar on Thursday, January 27.
The police force, together with the Giporlos municipal counterparts, the barangay officials of Sitio Darahig in Barangay 7, and the elements of the 63rd Infantry Battalion, joined the event.
The makakalikasan police bloc planted some 25 langka trees, 25 mango trees, and 50 mahogany saplings.
PCol. Matthe Aseo talked to the barangay folks about the importance of planting and maintaining trees around.
“Ini nga climate change dako it epekto, waray na na-absorb nga kakahuyan ha igbaw kun nabaha, salit nagtutuno, naabot it baha ha aton kabalayan, labi na nga harani kamo ha salog,” (Climate change affects us a lot, our watershed is slowly perishing, no more trees to absorb runoff, when heavy rains come there is flood and landslide. Worse, the flood reaches your homes as you are near the river), Aseo told the residents.
He then urged the locals to help the police care for the trees planted that day, as they could provide climate change mitigation.
Punong Barangay Rodolfo Lacdao nodded in assent.
Lacdao also thanked the provincial police force with Mayor Gilbert Go for some food items delivered to the barangay folks.
“We will continue more of these activities as the Eastern Samar Police force espouses its mantra of being maka-Diyos, makatao at makalikasan,” said PCol. Rommel Cesista, chief of the Provincial Community Affairs Division Unit. (LDL/NBQ/PIA8 Eastern Samar)
