DPWH Biliran chief bares updates in 'Meet the Biliran Press'

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) -- District Engineer Ferdinand A. Briones of the Department of Public Works and Highways - Biliran District Engineering Office (DPWH-BDEO) reported relevant updates on the ongoing and planned infrastructure projects of the engineering district during the press conference dubbed 'Meet the Biliran Press.'

The first episode of the press conference was held during the Biliran Communicators Network (BilComNet) Meeting held at the DPWH-BDEO Conference Room on January 28.

Meet the Biliran Press, which is a brainchild of PIA Biliran in coordination with BilComNet, is a face-to-face interview with heads of national government agencies, local government units, and non-government organizations in the Province of Biliran as guests with focus on the presentation on their programs, activities and services provided to the Biliranons.

Briones informed the Biliran press on the update of the construction of the engineering district's new office at a lot within the proposed government center in Barangay Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran.

He said the new office building to be constructed this year, with a proposed budget cost of P60-M during the time of former Secretary Singson, is uniform in design in all district offices of the DPWH nationwide.

He also answered query on road safety in some uneven asphalt overlay project located in some road network of the town of Naval.

He said the engineering district will find some remedies to solve this situation in order to ensure the safety of the road users.

Briones, who was joined in by his key department heads in the press conference, also gave updates on the construction of Caray-Caray and Catmon bridges.

He reported that the construction of Caray-Caray Bridge will be continued by a new contractor but still on a joint venture. The construction of major parts of the project like installation of girders is visible and is expected to be finished within the year.

However, he said the construction of Catmon Bridge is terminated and a possibly of a new contract will be made with another contractor to continue the project. This situation may cause delay of the project.

He likewise mentioned some ongoing big projects like the construction of Naval Bypass Road traversing some ricefields in Barangay Sto. Niño to the national highway in Caray-Caray in Naval town.

He mentioned some minor problem on the construction of the bypass road where one owner of a ricefield did not give approval for the project to be constructed in an area of her ricefield.

However, he said that an expropriation proceeding is now filed in court to address said problem.

Briones assured to members of the Biliran press that the DPWH-BDEO will at all times be transparent to the public. (LDL/RSV/PIA Biliran)
