Sibugay Abaca Farmers get P1.4M assistance from DOST

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, Feb. 7 (PIA) - Abaca farmers in Titay town gets assistance from the government thru the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) IX for the establishment of an Abaca Nursery Farm. 

Jennifer A. Pidor, Provincial S&T Director said, identified beneficiaries of this project dubbed “Empowerment of Local Communist Armed Conflict-Affected Communities Through Science and Technology” and as stipulated in the Memorandum of Agreement, are local Abaca farmers who are members of the Pulidan Alsa Masa farmers Association and Service Provider (PAMFASP) . 

LGU Titay as project proponent, officially received the check worth ₱1,490,600.00 turned over by DOST-IX thru its Provincial S&T Center of Zamboanga Sibugay in a ceremonial event held recently.

Pidor said the amount will be used for the establishment of Abaca Nursery Farm including the conduct  of training in production and management; procurement of tools and materials and equipment such as Abaca combined Deco and Stripping Machines, and the portable Abaca Stripper.


This effort is in support to E.O 70 or End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) Program, a nationwide strategy executed by the Office of the President to attain an inclusive and sustainable economic development throughout conflict-affected and conflict-vulnerable communities in the country.  (NBE/JPA/ Zamboanga Sibugay)
