BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- The Provincial Government of Eastern Samar hired some 1,000 learning facilitators to assist children’s learning at home through the modular system.
Governor Ben Evardone said the initiative is their way of supporting the learning continuity program of the Department of Education (DepEd) amid the health crisis.
"These teacher-facilitators will serve as tutors for pupils and students to better understand the learning materials and will likewise assist teachers in the distribution of modules," Evardone said.
The Provincial Governor added that said 1,000 personnel were deployed to augment the teaching staff of the Eastern Samar School Divisions and Borongan City Division. They will be assigned to different barangays of Eastern Samar.
The said learning facilitators were oriented by the Provincial Government and the Department of Education through Eastern Samar Schools Division and Borongan City Division before they were deployed.
Governor Evardone said that the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar allotted some P30-M for these services and each of them would receive a daily wage of P300 and would be required to work three days per week until June. The contract for their services started on January 3, 2022.
“These are licensed teachers and non-licensed teachers who will be handling learners in primary and secondary schools, depending on their major or specialization," Evardone added.
Based on the agreement between the provincial government and the two school divisions, the six-month stint of the teacher-facilitators who are not licensed teachers will earn them service credits they would need when they apply for a regular teaching position.
Ms. Mariolle Jonn Abunda, one of the learning facilitators said that the program will help her gain experience and will help her family with the additional income. This is the third time that the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar initiated the said program since 2020. This effort of the Provincial Government was lauded by the DepEd in the region.
