NegOr farmers gain from cattle fattening

NEGROS ORIENTAL, March 8 (PIA) -- Ten members of the Barangay Paniabonan Rural Improvement Club (BPRIC) in Mabinay town have earned over P83,800 from their cattle trading.

Under the Department of Agriculture 7- Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD), six months ago the club has sold its cattle with net sales ranging between P6,300 to P22,700.

Maria Satoc, 61, one of the members, never expected the sales from the cattle.

Satoc was teary-eyed when she recently received more than P24,000 as net income of her cattle at the auction market in Mabinay.

Wala ko magdahum na dako-dako akong makuha na halin sa akong baka (I never thought that I can get the highest sales from my cattle)," said Satoc.

Satoc said she was able to buy rice and medicines and pay her debt from the proceeds.

The said club thanked DA for their extra earnings from selling their cattle.

The DA and the association signed a memorandum of agreement for backyard cattle fattening program in 2021, which specified that beneficiaries of the SAAD program can sell their animals but they must share 30% of the sales to the association for the rollover scheme.

The earnings from the sales will also be used to buy new cattle for other members to avail of the said project. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
