DENR leads cleanup in Muntinlupa City’s Balimbing River

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) --Some 42 volunteers recently troop to the Balimbing River in Muntinlupa City to remove waste from the boundaries of Barangays Poblacion and Putatan in a cleanup initiated by the Metropolitan Environmental Office (MEO)-South.

The volunteers included employees of the MEO-South, staff members of the city government’s Lake Management Office, Environmental Sanitation Center, Barangay Poblacion’s Clean and Green, and Estero Rangers from Barangays Poblacion and Putatan. The activity resulted in the removal of 176 sacks of mixed waste from the waterway.

Balimbing River stretches 5,850 meters long and drains its waters to Laguna de Bay. Laguna de Bay is connected to Manila Bay via the Napindan Channel, Manggahan Floodway, and the rivers and esteros of the cities of Taguig and Makati, and the municipality of Pateros.

The activity was conducted in line with the on-going cleanup and rehabilitation of Manila Bay. (DENR/PIA-NCR)
