BUTUAN CITY -- The Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau (MGB) Manila led by its director, Atty. Wilfredo Moncano, highlighted the advantages/benefits that the mining companies imparted to locals especially those who are greatly affected by the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Moncano emphasized that the mining industry contributed greatly to the upliftment of the economy as it continues to expand and provide employment to locals. “Our mining sector has been tapped to help us in the recovery of our economy,” he said.

During the media forum on mining concerns in Caraga region, various mining firms also laid out their priority projects which are expected to uplift the economy and provide more jobs and livelihood to the people of Caraga. 

Engr. Larry Heradez, MGB-Caraga regional director, highlighted that the MGB and DENR has identified pipeline projects that are soon to start their operation. “With this, many will have the opportunity to be employed in the mining firms,” he said.

Caraga Chamber of Mines president Engr. Corsino Odtujan also encouraged the small scale mining firms to register and undertake the necessary processes, so they could also avail of the technical assistance and learn new ways in mining.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) called on miners to be more responsible and always ensure safety of workers, as well as a safe environment and community for all. 

“When we are in balance in relation to the environment and to the economy, all the Filipino people will benefit from the mining industry,” said William Coñado, regional director of EMB-Caraga. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)
