BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- The City of Borongan received a Plaque of Recognition for being the Top 4 Most Improved Component City in the 9th Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index (CMCI) nationwide search done by the Competitiveness Bureau of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The citation was handed down by DTI Regional Director Celerina T. Bato to City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan C. Agda on March 2 at the Borongan City hall lobby and witnessed by Sangguniang Panglungsod members and city department heads.
According to Regional Director Bato, the competitive index search was an annual ranking of all local government units (LGUs) - cities and municipalities nationwide.
She disclosed that Borongan City was recognized as the “Top 4 Most Improved” out of 113 cities nationwide wherein 108 are component cities and five independent cities.
She said she was proud that Borongan City made it to the Top 4 in 2021 considering that in the year 2019, the city placed 106th in the nationwide ranking, the only one in Easterm Visayas to receive such award.
“This is a program of DTI that encourages LGUs to gather and submit data to be used in the measurement of their performance based on the five competitiveness pillars: economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation, and out of these five pillars, the innovation is new and was added only in 2021,” Bato said.
Every pillar has 10 indicators to show the economic activities of every city and municipality, and these data have a big impact to formulate policies in LGUs.
“It is advantageous if the city can get a high competitiveness ranking because many investors are encouraged to put up businesses especially now in Borongan City,” the DTI regional head said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Agda is very happy that Borongan City was given a of Plaque of Recognition.
“We in Borongan went up to Top 4 in 2021 from 106th place in 2019 because of the concerted efforts of the different department heads of the city,” Mayor Agda said.
