DBP donates P2 million to Limasawa LGU

LIMASAWA, Southern Leyte (PIA) -- The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has donated the amount of P2 million to the local government unit here for their continued relief, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts.

The donation was made possible through Rogelio Garcia, a member of the bank’s Board of Directors, Thursday, March 31, on the sidelines of the 501st first Easter Sunday Mass anniversary celebration.

The check turnover was witnessed by Roger Mercado, DPWH secretary, DBP officials led by Garcia, and DPP-Maasin personnel headed by Emilita Sanchez.

It was received and right there and then issued receipt by the town’s treasurer.

Limasawa Mayor Melchor Petracorta was not around at the moment the check was given at the Shrine after the Holy Mass officiated by the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Charles John Brown, for he was out attending to the visiting clergy.

In a short chat with reporters, Board Member Garcia said it is up to the local government how to use the money to advance its development after being devastated by Typhoon Odette in December 2021.

Garcia said other badly-hit areas were also given P2 million by the DBP such as Dinagat and Surigao, even as he credited the efforts of DPWH chief , Secreatary Mercado, as instrumental for the bank to grant the donation.

DBP-Maasin Manager Sanchez, for her part, said the local branch extended donation for tens and hundred thousands of pesos to other towns in the province to aid in their recovery program.

But the highest slice was received by Limasawa, she added. (LDL/MMP/PIA8-Southern Leyte)
