BJMP-NCR recognizes Caritas’ Restorative Justice Program

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology - National Capital Region (BJMP-NCR) recently recognized Caritas Manila for its Restorative Justice Program.

Caritas Manila was recognized during the bureau’s 30th anniversary for its program for persons deprived of liberty (PDL) through a Plaque of Merit for the its unfaltering and ardent support to BJMP-NCR’s cause of safekeeping and development.

Its restorative justice program received the award for its programs and services for PDLs. For the past two years, it has introduced new programs and services to jail facilities within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila.

The inclusion of case management as an approach coupled with engaging them in the helping process and educating them about the existence and importance of restorative justice contributed a lot in improving the program.

Based on direct feedback from partner jail facilities, Caritas RJ’s transition from direct provision of services to a more holistic approach helped a lot of PDLs and their families.

Caritas Manila is a non-profit organization that serves as the lead social service and development ministry of the Catholic Church in the Philippines.

The organization is geared towards total human development, poverty alleviation and the creation of a Christian community with a strong social conscience. (Caritas Manila/PIA-NCR)
