The Philippine Tour Operation Association (PHILTOA), in partnership with the Tourism Promotions Board and in coordination with the Department of Tourism Region 9, implemented Fundemic Travel Series in the areas like Zamboanga Peninsula and Basilan to promote tourism destinations ready for the new normal.

Atty. Maria Anthonette Velasco Allones the Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism Promotions Board together with her team and the participants from different cultural groups in Basilan and ZamPen arrived in Isabela City on April 6 (Wednesday) for the conduct of the Sustainable Community-Based Tourism Training that aims to capacitate tourism workers in digital marketing and promotion from different communities of Zamboanga Peninsula that were initially assessed and visited by the Tourism Promotions Board in September 2021.

In her message during the welcome dinner, Atty. Alloness expressed gratitude to Isabela City for opening its door to them for tourism promotions as she also conveyed her appreciation to the unique culture and heritage of Isabela City.

“Maniwala po kayo sa amin, ito na po siguro yong hinihintay natin na pagkakataon para maibahagi ang yaman ng inyong kultura, ng inyong sining, hindi lang sa ibang bansa kundi sa ibang parte ng mundo," Alloness said.

Allones added that their office will continue in helping different cultural groups by providing them marketing services through various activities that will help them promote and advocate their products for sustainable development in tourism promotion.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sitti Djlia Turabin-Hataman emphasized the importance of learning more about the different backgrounds and reflections of our culture and heritage as we create a sense of pride for our cultural heritage.

“As we learn more, we have to discover more of ourselves and our culture. We are very lucky na meron pang mga forms itong culture, tradition and arts na ito pero ang hinahanap po natin ay yong essence, ang hinahanap po natin ay yong kwento sa likod ng mga habi na ito, sa likod ng mga banka na ito, sa likod ng mga trade markers or sulok na ito kasi for us heritage ito na minana natin sa ating mga ninuno at naniniwala tayo sa lalim ng wisdom na parang sekretong hatid nitong mga kultura at tradisyon na ito,” Mayor Hataman emphasized

The tourism workshop was participated by different cultural groups in Basilan and from Zamboanga Peninsula, namely: Kumala Cultural Weavers Association of Municipality of Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur;  Lapuyan Subanen Heritage Weavers of School for Living Tradition, Municipality of Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur; Sta.
