DOH-7 warns public vs summer diseases

CEBU CITY, Cebu May 16 (PIA) – The Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH-7) cautioned the public against heat stroke and other diseases which tend to be prevalent during the summer season.

DOH also gave reminders about taking precautionary measures to avoid these summer diseases.

During the Kapihan sa PIA on May 11, DOH-7 Medical Officer III and Head of the Health Emergency Management Services Dr. Shelbay Blanco said other common summer diseases aside from heat stroke are food poisoning, dehydration, sun burn, rashes, chicken pox, measles, dengue, and sore eyes.

He also advised the people to be more health conscious as they enjoy various physical activities particularly during summer. 

It's very important nga magbantay gyud karon sa panahon sa ting-init ilabi na kung aduna nay sakit nga gidala. We have to drink fluids to keep ourselves hydrated, apply sunblock if naa mo niini, and ang pag prepare sa atong mga pagkaon atong tarungon,” said Blanco.

As Filipinos continue to experience the summer season, Blanco emphasized that the most effective way in preventing summer diseases is to observe cleanliness and by keeping the environment clean. 

“Luyo niining tanan, ang cleanliness o ang kalimpyo mao ang pinaka importante. Siguruon gyud ang kalimpyo sa kaugalingon og kalimpyo sa atong palibot, kay diha malikayan ang kadaghanan sa mga sakit ilabi na karong summer season. Kung limpyado lang gyud ta, malikayan ni natung mga sakita," he added.

Aside from summer diseases, the health department also reminded the public to continue being vigilant against COVID-19 as it still poses a threat to public health. 

DOH-7 is urging individuals to get vaccinated or have their COVID-19 booster shots and continue practicing the health protocols, especially the wearing of face masks. (RGC/PIA7)
