Dgte hosts Nat'l Invitational Volleyball match

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, May 24 (PIA) -- A total of 10 competing teams from the different high schools in the country will start their break for the National Invitational Volleyball competition from May 25 to 27 at Foundation University in Dumaguete City.

This national sports event will also serve as the simulation exercises for the city’s hosting of the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Schools Games in November 2022.

Schools Division Supt. Dr. Cyrus Elejorde of the Department of Education (DepEd) Dumaguete City said this week’s event will be participated in by around 200 people, which is around 10% the population who might be joining the ASEAN School Games.

The simulation exercises will take into account the observance of minimum health protocols to avoid further complications, particularly on the spread of infection and security of the public.

Among the participating schools that will compete in this week’s tournament include Davao National High School, National University, Living Stone International School, Umingan High School, Leyte National High School, Kings Montessori of Quezon City, Bacolod Taytung High School, California Academy, Dumaguete City and Sta. Rosa City Division.

"It’s all systems go,” said retired Gen. Rey Lawas, head of the committee on security and public safety and emergency preparedness and response, in a press conference on May 23.

A total of 16 committees are involved now in different tasks and functions in preparation also for the ASEAN Games.

“We are committing 189 personnel coming from the different offices of the city including the PNP to ensure that this is one way of assessing the capability of our security and emergency personnel," said Lawas.

DepEd, in partnership with the Dumaguete City government, will stage the 12th ASEAN School Games which expects to attract 5,000 student-athletes, team officials, and other delegates from 10 participating nations.

This annual sporting event aims to promote solidarity among the youth through school sports and provide them an opportunity to engage in cultural exchange. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
