MAKATI CITY, (PIA) – Some 500 Filipino hotel workers are set to go to Israel next week, according to said Israel Ambassador to the Philippines on Thursday.
In a meeting with Filipino media practitioners in his official residence, Ambassador Ilan Fluss said itis the first time that the hotel industry in Israel will open its doors to foreign workers.
“There was a decision to open the hotel industry to foreign labor and in the meantime, only forFilipino workers, next week will be the first batch going to Israel,” Fluss said.
The project is a part of the 2018 Philippines-Israel labor agreement made during PresidentRodrigo Duterte’s visit to Israel.
“The ‘government to government’ arrangement saves a lot of cost for the workers,” Fluss added.
Filipino Workers will be given medical insurance, pension fund, and all of the social rights givenunder Israeli regulation.
The pandemic severely affected the tourism sector, with an estimate of 1 million jobs lost in thetourism industry as widespread lockdown and strict quarantine rules were implemented.
Currently, there are approximately 25,000 Overseas Filipino Workers in Israel working as caregivers. (PIA-NCR)
