PH celebrates Eagle Week

QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) calls for a collective action and active stewardship of eagles and other wildlife in the forest as it leads the commemoration of the Philippine Eagle Week.

The event is being celebrated from June 4 to 10 with the theme “Peace and Freedom: The Eagle and the People, Related”.

It aims to raise awareness, love, and concern for all Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi) which serves as the country's national bird that symbolizes peace and freedom as a nation.

It also aims to emphasize the relationship between the eagle and other creatures. The continuing decline in the number of eagles in the forests has a negative impact on humans.

The annual celebration is in accordance to Presidential Proclamation No. 79, series of 1999 declaring June 4th to 10th of every year as Philippine Eagle week. (Photos by DENR) (PIA-NCR)
