QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- In commemoration of the partnership milestone between Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the activation of 1,000 Free Wi-Fi for All sites in 220 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) has been completed.
The ceremonial activation was led by DICT Acting Secretary Emmanuel Rey “Manny” R. Caintic and was simultaneously held at the Bulacan Polytechic College and in Nueva Vizcaya State University.
Through this project, more Filipinos, especially students, will be provided with access to free internet services in public places and government offices to supplement learning and help augment the government’s disaster preparedness and response, and healthcare services.
Also present during the event are UNDP Philippines Resident Representative Dr. Selva Ramachandran, DICT Undersecretary Alan A. Silor, Undersecretary Maria Victoria C. Castro, DICT Region 3 Regional Director Reynaldo T. Sy, and Free Wi-Fi For All Project Manager / Director Wilkins Wong.
Also in attendance were Bulacan Polytechnic College Managed Information Systems Department Head Dr. Rosemarie S. Guire and Nueva Vizcaya State University OIC President Ruth Rana Padilla, and PLDT Enterprise Business Group First Vice President Joseph Ian G. Gendrano. (DICT / PIA-NCR)
