TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) -- A total of 26 applicants were hired on the spot and 57 were considered near hired for various jobs offered during the Independence Day Job and Business Fair at Robinsons Tacloban on Sunday, June 12.
Applicants hired on the sport were call center agents, clerk, cashier, production crew, drivers, accounting staff, sales personnel, bagger, office staff and customer sales representatives.
Those who were near-hired by 19 establishments will undergo further interviews and/or examinations depending on the company.
Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena said those near-hired will be monitored by their office if they will be absorbed or not.
He also thanked the employers who joined the jobs fair.
“Yung ating mga employers na nakilahok ngayon sa ating 124th kalayaan jobs fair both local and overseas, ako’y nagpapasalamat sa inyo dahil nagtala kayo ng 1,916 job orders ngayon na aaplayan ng ating mga constituents dito,” Jalbuena said.
Norma Rae Costimiano, DOLE-8 information officer, said around 1,039 jobseekers in the region have registered during the one-day jobs fair.
An applicant who was hired on the spot expressed her gratitude to the Department of Labor and Employment for initiating the activity.
Delyn Escobilla, who travelled from Southern Leyte was one of the 26 applicants hired on the spot.
“Natutuwa po ako kasi sulit talaga yung travel ko papunta dito. Maraming salamat po sa DOLE dahil may ganitong job fair na nagbigay daan para magkaroon ako ng trabaho,” Escobilla said.

In said occasion, DOLE-8, in partnership with Tingog Partylist also awarded free bicycles to some 61 underemployed workers in Tacloban under the “FreeBis Project.
The bicycle is complete with accessories and a brand new cellphone with load to assist them in their livelihood.
The FreeBis project is an Integrated Livelihood Program of DOLE that aims to help augment income of workers displaced by COVID-19. (MMP/CBA/PIA-8)
