GENERAL SANTOS CITY (PIA) -- A hub for a locally produced milk dubbed the "Dairy Box Project" will soon rise in Barangay Malalag, Maitum, Sarangani.
This was after the municipality of Maitum became a recipient of the project which held its groundbreaking on June 22 in Barangay Malalag led by officials from the municipal government and the Department of Agriculture–Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC).
During the ceremony, Mayor Alexander Bryan Reganit expressed his appreciation to OIC Executive Director Dr. Ronnie Domingo of the DA-PCC for selecting his town for the project.
He said the dairy box project will be a big help to Maitum farmers as it will provide them market to sell their carabao milk products, which he described “healthy and nutritious.”
According to Domingo the project is part of the Carabao-based Business Improvement Network (CBIN) project or popularly known as "Accelerating Livelihood and Assets Buildup (ALAB)-Karbawan" implemented by DA-PCC and funded by the Office of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Agrarian Reform chairperson, Senator Cynthia Villar.
He said the dairy box project aims to support carabao value chain stakeholders, particularly carabao keepers to gather locally produced and processed dairy products of their surrounding community in response to the increasing demand for locally produced milk in the province.
Also present were Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Sarangani-General Santos City Provincial Director Nabil Hadji Yassin, PCC-National Headquarters Engr. Eduardo Dalusong, CBIN-ALAB-Karbawan Project focal person Paul Andrew Texon, and Pangi Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PAMULCO) chairperson Melecio M. Ubongen.
