Zagala takes over as new PSG commander

CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) --The Former spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Colonel Ramon P. Zagala (Philippine Army), takes over as the new commander of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) in acting capacity.

In a Change of Command Ceremony led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Monday, July 4, outgoing PSG Commander, Brigadier General Randolph G. Cabangbang handed over the position and received the Distinguished Service Medal, an award given to officers of the AFP for the ‘valuable and exceptional service rendered in a position of major responsibility’ as PSG Commander.

Zagala was also appointed as the Acting Senior Military Assistant to the President (SMA).

Prior his assignment, he was also the Executive Officer of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, OJ7, at the General Headquarters, AFP in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

He is a certified VIP Protector as he is a graduate of VIP Protection Course and held various positions in PSG during his junior years in the service such as Executive Officer from year 1997 to 2000 of 1st Light Armor Company (Separate), now presently called as the 5th Cavalry Company and Aide-de-Camp to former President Joseph Estrada.
