QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo called on local government units not to store prepositioned relief goods for a long time and to immediately distribute it.

During Tulfo's inspection of the National Resource Operations Center in Pasay City on Wednesday, he said that a "first in, first out" policy is being implemented in their agency where relief items must be released and distributed to those in need.

The secretary explained that LGUs have nothing to worry about in case they run out of supply because they just need to request the DSWD Central Office and they will send new stock immediately.

Tulfo also informed that the NROC is able to produce 20,000 boxes of food packs per day.

The DSWD chief has already issued a directive to download the supply of relief goods to the regions so that LGUs can preposition their relief assets and be prepared during disasters such as typhoons.

Tulfo added that President "Bongbong" Marcos' order is clear that the government should be proactive and not reactive, so relief items should already be prepositioned into the locality.

Based on the inspection, he said the supply of food packs and hygiene kits, as well as funds for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and sustainable livelihood are still sufficient. (PIA-NCR)
