DAVAO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is turning over on Wednesday afternoon (July 13), 66 Balik Probinsya Bagong Pag-asa (BP2P) beneficiary-families to four local government units of Davao del Norte. One family is also turned over to Davao City along with those turned over to Davao del Norte.
On top of entrusting the BP2P beneficiaries to their respective local governments of New Corella, Sto Tomas, Carmen and the Island Garden City of Samal, DSWD XI also reveals of community grants worth PhP7.5 million each to LGUs with at least 20 returned families.
During the Symbolic Turnover and Acceptance rites held this afternoon in Davao City, DSWD XI Regional Director, Atty Vanessa Goc-Ong cited as a “unique” feature the “Community Grant Support Sub-project” extended “to the Balik Probinsya receiving municipalities with at least 20 returned families.”
This year 2022, DSWD has granted community grants worth PhP7.5 million each to the municipalities of New Corella, Carmen, Sto Tomas and Asuncion.
During this same event, Atty Goc-ong lauded the provincial government of Davao del Norte for taking courage to pioneer the BP2P implementation, initially serving six families with a total of 19 individuals in year 2021.
In accepting the BP2P challenge, the PLGU of Davao del Norte has gained a number of learnings through crafting its own initiatives to locally rollout BP2P.
In the same occasion, Anselmo Junio, representing Provincial Governor Edwin I. Jubahib, shared the Davao del Norte gains and experiences anchored on coordination, cooperation and determination to deliver commitments to provide the better life opportunities for the BP2P families.
Among the factors paving way for successful BP2P implementation in Davao del Norte were “the prompt response” of PLGU Davao del Norte to accept the program; the issuance of Executive Order of Governor Jubahib delineating task for the BP2P implementation in the province; and the establishment of coordination system among PLGU offices.
Other BP2P best practices of Davao del Norte are the setting up of a monitoring mechanism, the diligence to share the experiences and lessons learned; the strict implementation of COVID-19 protocols province-wide; the complementation mechanism between and among partner national line agencies; the sense of appreciation and importance to all assistance extended by NGAs to BP2P implementation in the province.
During the same event, BP2P Senate proponent, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go conveyed his gratitude to the support extended to BP2P, citing it as a legacy of President Duterte in contribution to the vision of ensuring “a comfortable lives for all Filipinos.” (PIA XI/Jeanevive Duron-Abangan)
