TACLOBAN CITY -- The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Regional Office 8 in Tacloban City was accorded a five-star rating as regards the energy conservation practices during the recent random spot-checking activities conducted by the Department of Energy (DOE) Visayas Field Office in the different government line agencies in Tacloban City.
The DOE’s ongoing assessment efforts are premised on the government’s mandate to implement and institutionalize the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP).
The mandatory implementation of the energy efficiency and conservation measures is aimed to realize at least 10% energy savings, and likewise ensure sufficient supply of petroleum products amid the uncertainty brought about by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
PIA-8 Regional Director Venus Garcia expressed her appreciation to the DOE’s efforts.
“We thank the DOE audit team for leading the assessment on our compliance with the government’s mandatory implementation of energy efficiency and conservation programs. Let us sustain our efforts in promoting judicious use of energy resources through intensified conservation and efficient utilization," Garcia said.
The DOE Energy Audit Team composed of Miguel Trenuela, senior science research specialist, and Robert James Lacandazo, science research specialist, inspected and evaluated PIA-8’s compliance of the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) on the aspect of energy efficiency and conservation (EEC), fuel-saving and electric-saving measures.
The agency’s overall rating, as a result of the spot check conducted by the Energy Audit team, has to be posted in the government entity’s premises, and would serve as a reminder as to the proper and efficient energy utilization of the concerned agency. (LDL/GTT-PIA Leyte)
