PinasLakas campaign launched in South Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) -- The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, in partnership with the Department of Health-Center for Health Development Soccsksargen (DOH-CHD XII) and national line agencies officially launched Monday “PinasLakas” vaccination campaign that intensifies the COVID-19 vaccination campaign here and other parts of the country.

“This is our way of supporting the first 100 days of President Marcos’ administration in his quest to establish a wall of immunity or protection for all Filipinos against COVID-19,” DOH-CHD XII Regional Director Aristides Tan said.

"Sa Booster PinasLakas" COVID-19 vaccination campaign aims to cover at least 90 percent of senior citizens with the primary COVID-19 shots and 50 of eligible population with at least the 1st booster shot on or before October 8, 2022.

"Booster shot is really required now considering that the level of immunity given by the primary series or the two initial shots of COVID vaccine will just give a level of immunity for a certain period. Eventually, after time, the status of immunity will be reduced," Director Tan said.

"There is a need to increase the immunity of the Filipinos against COVID-19  so that we will be on our way to recovery, and recovery in terms of economy."

In South Cotabato, according to provincial health officer, Dr. Rogelio Aturdido Jr., this means at least 62,732 fully vaccinated senior citizens and 358,710 South Cotabateños, 12 years old and over, receiving at least one booster shot against the coronavirus.

Based on the data provided by the DOH,  as of August 13, of the target senior citizens, 46,178 (73.61%) are already fully vaccinated; thus, South Cotabato needs to cover at least 16,554 senior citizens with primary COVID-19 vaccine doses by October 8.

Meanwhile, South Cotabato has to cover 296,402 of its general population to achieve 50 percent of its eligible population receiving 1st booster dose on target date.

“South Cotabato is not the lowest when it comes to vaccination status in the region; but I would like to thank Director Aristides Tan dahil dito nila ni-launch ang Sa Booster PinasLakas campaign. Through this information dissemination mapapataas natin ang mga coverage natin, ang accomplishments natin, lalung lalo na sa booster.” Dr. Aturdido said. (PIA XII)
