PDEA 12 intensifies campaign against online illegal drug trade

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) -- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) advised the public to be on alert against the selling of illegal drugs online as it intensifies its anti-illegal drug campaigns in all forms.

PDEA XII regional director Naravy Duquiatan revealed that illegal drug peddlers are now using social media and courier services as distribution channels.

According to Duquiatan, drug traffickers usually sell marijuana and shabu using the internet, which they deliver to customers via courier services.

“Ang mga online sellers meron na silang mga suki na courier service na magdadala ng illegal drugs sa ating areas. We are also tracking the source,” she said.

Duquiatan said they already intensified the enforcement and intelligence monitoring in partnership with the Philippine National Police and other law enforcement agencies.

To help address this trend, PDEA already conducted a series of advocacy programs for e-commerce businesses and courier services in the region to help them fortify their operations.

PDEA also entered partnerships with courier companies to help intercept packages containing illegal drugs and prevent the occurrence of drug-related activities. (PIA XII)
