QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has issued the new suggested retail price (SRP) for some 67 basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPC) due to the price hike.

The agency explained that there was a 3.29 percent to 10 percent increase in SRPs due to the increase in prices of raw materials, packaging and other expenses.

The price of canned sardines increased by six percent, while processed milk prices rose by three to 10 percent, the DTI said.

Coffee prices also increased by 5.81 to nine percent, while 3-in-1 coffee mixes increased by eight to 10 percent.

The price of noodles also increased by more than three percent while the price of detergent soap, by six percent.

The price of bottled water also increased from 3.53 to 10 percent, while the price of candles increased by six percent, according to the agency.

An increase in the price of processed canned meat and processed canned beef by six percent was also reported.

The price of condiments also increased from five to six percent.

"Amid these adjustments, the DTI remains steadfast in its commitment in ensuring that consumers have access to reasonably priced goods in the market, hence increases were kept to a minimum," said DTI Consumer Protection Group Undersecretary Ruth Castelo.

Castelo emphasized that DTI regularly monitors the price and movement of raw materials of the said BNPCs. (PIA-NCR)
