KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) -- The Department of Education here has already put up a learning scheme to help students recover and transition from the pandemic to the new normal setting in learning.
As classes for school year 2022-2023 began, Koronadal City Schools Division Superintendent Crispin Soliven Jr. said, the goal is to not only bring learners back to school but to effectively aid them catch up and further improve the quality of education.
Soliven revealed that as early as November 2021, DepEd Koronadal already started the formulation of a learning recovery plan to determine the extent of losses and address identified gaps with the help of school heads and teachers.
“As early as last year, na-conceptualize na natin yung learning recovery plan. Na-foresee na namin na ito ang mangyari, magkaroon talaga ng learning loss so that’s why we are very proactive in identifying, getting the profile of all the learners, ano yung mga least learned competencies that need to be addressed,” Soliven said.
The plan will give more attention to the literacy and numeracy skills of the learners who were affected by lockdowns and other modalities during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We acknowledge talaga na mayroong learning loss so dapat may enrichment, remediation, reading, numeracy para tumaas naman ang kalidad, the quality of education in this part of the country,” he added.
The official said this is one of DepEd Koronadal’s best practices, and is now replicated by other divisions and regions in the country.
As of August 19, at least 52,308 elementary and high school learners in the city were already enrolled in 45 elementary and 8 secondary schools in the city.
A total of 25 schools will implement full in-person classes, while 28 schools will focus on blended learning modality.
“We will continue to monitor and evaluate the conduct of classes. Kung ano ‘yung mga gaps na maidentify namin, we will address that immediately and we will continue to provide technical assistance sa ating mga eskwelahan,” Soliven said. (PIA XII)
