QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The number of dengue cases continues to increase in nine regions in the Philippines, according to Department of Health (DOH) Officer in Charge Ma. Rosario Vergeire, as of Friday, Aug 19.
According to Vergeire, the country recorded 23,414 cases of dengue based on reports from July 3, 2022 to July 30, 2022.
She said 18,208 or 78% of dengue cases were hospitalized.
"That's why we always remind our countrymen, the 4S strategy includes the seek early consult because if we catch the symptoms of dengue early, a person with dengue does not need to be hospitalized," according to DOH OIC Vergeire.
The 4S strategy is to:
Search and destroy breeding places,
Secure self-protection,
Seek early consultation, and
Support fogging/spraying in hotspot areas.
Vergeire also encouraged the public to consult health centers immediately when experiencing dengue symptoms such as fever for two days or more.
According to the official, the agency has downloaded funds to hospitals for additional resources in case dengue admissions increase.
The DOH earlier said it recorded a total of 102,619 dengue cases from January 1 to July 30, 2022, which is 131% higher than what was recorded during the same period in 2021. (PIA-NCR)
