KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) -- The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) welcomes 134 new scholars in Soccsksargen for school year 2022-2023.
OWWA 12 regional director Marilou Sumalinog said, they already inked agreements with 24 students who will be under the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) and 110 students for OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP).
The new scholars, together with their parents and guardians attended the orientation and MOA signing on August 25 and 26 to know the policies and privileges they would receive under OWWA’s banner scholarship programs.
"Congratulations to our new OWWA Scholars and to the proud parents. Through this program, we are able to provide scholarship opportunities to young people and support them throughout their education. We trust that the path ahead is considerably brighter with this scholarship being the establishment of their future endeavor," Sumalinog said.
The EDSP and OFWDSP are offered to qualified dependents of active OWWA-member OFWs desiring to enroll in any four- or five-year course in any college or university. The OFWDSP, however, is for dependents of an OFW whose monthly salary in not more than US$600.
EDSP scholars are given an allowance of P60,00 per school year while ODSP scholars are allotted P20,000 per academic year.
As of August 30, there are 77 EDSP scholars and 357 ODSP scholars currently benefiting from said OWWA scholarship programs in Region 12.
