DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Sept. 1 (PIA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 7 (DENR7) has awarded the Dumaguete City government as “Best in Resource Recovery in a Centralized Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)” among all the cities and municipalities in Central Visayas.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo formally accepted the award from DENR7 Director Maribel Munsayac and DENR-EMB 7 Regional Executive Director Pacquito Melicor Jr.
The DENR recognized Dumaguete City for generating a monthly income of at least P500,000 for the city government through its recovery of recyclable materials/waste while providing livelihood for the waste pickers through proper and sustainable solid waste management.
DENR-EMB 7 also noted that the city was able to utilize the financial assistance from DENR by establishing a plastic chair facility and purchase of bio-composter and other equipment to improve the MRF.
The City MRF is part of the eight-hectare Eco-Park Solid Waste Processing Facility, which is also a recipient of the plastic to chair recycling equipment, glass pulverizer, bio-shredder, bio-composters from DENR that are capable of treating and converting garbage into useful by-products.
