CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) – Multi-month series of tourism related job fairs will commence on 22 September 2022 and conclude in May 2023 to mark the 50th Tourism Department’s Founding Anniversary.
This after, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) formalized their partnership on Tuesday, 30 August for the conduct of the “Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso!” Philippine Tourism Job Fair series.
Aimed at linking workers adversely displaced during the height of the pandemic some two years ago, and considering employment opportunities in the recovering tourism industry, the multi-month series of job fairs will commence on 22 September 2022 and conclude in May 2023 to mark the 50th DOT Founding Anniversary. The same month also coincides with the occasion of Philippine Labor Day.
Based on initial survey reports from DOT Regional Offices, about 1,500 job vacancies have been solicited from its private partners as of 27 August 2022. These vacancies are expected to increase prior to the opening day.
DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma highlights the significance of the partnership in targeted skills and jobs generation, and bringing workers back as active participants in the labor market with decent and gainful jobs.
“Taking advantage of new technologies, we guarantee that this avenue to connect job seekers with employers, and vice versa, is accessible to the tourism sector’s pool of workers nationwide and shall accelerate their job search and eventual placement,” said the Labor Secretary.
DOT Secretary Ma. Esperanza Christina Garcia-Frasco expressed that the partnership formalized by way of the signed MOU is essential, responsive, and proactive to the tourism sector’s workforce. Through the MOU, the jointly-conducted job fairs of DOLE and DOT will close gaps caused by job loss due to the pandemic, and fill essential job vacancies in the gradually recovering tourism industry.
The MOU was signed by Secretaries Laguesma and Garcia-Frasco at the Conrad Hotel Manila in Pasay City. In attendance were DOLE and DOT executives, House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco, Deputy Speaker Raymund Democrito Mendoza, Representative Eleandro Jesus Madrona, Representative Jose Gay Padiernos, and TESDA Director General Danilo Cruz.
The first of the series of virtual job fairs will take place from 22 to 24 September 2022 in the cities of Cebu and Davao, with face-to-face job fairs simultaneously held at the MOA-SMX Convention Center in Manila. (DOLE/PIA-NCR)
