DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Sept. 5 (PIA) -- Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Association of Negros Oriental Public Information Officers (ANOPIO) welcomed the newly-designated Public Information Officers (PIOs) who are now members of ANOPIO and partners in propagating accurate, timely, and relevant information to improve the lives of NegOrenses.
xThe association had its briefing-conference for PIOs on August 25 at Sidlakan Negros Village, this city.
It was the first PIO briefing-conference conducted following the conduct of local elections in Negros Oriental.
Aside from PIOs from local government units (LGUs), ANOPIO also welcomed new PIOs from national government agencies (NGAs) who have also joined the association.
The NGAs that recently joined the ANOPIO are the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Social Security System, Department of Education Division of Dumaguete City, Philippine Coast Guard Negros Oriental, Department of Foreign Affairs Dumaguete Regional Consular Office, and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Dumaguete Branch.
ANOPIO is an aggrupation of PIOs from LGUs, NGAs, and selected private cooperatives, institutions, and academe in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental that meets every month for information-sharing activities and institutional advancements.
ANOPIO aims to effectively communicate government plans, policies, and achievements and enlighten the community about government programs.
PIA Negros Oriental led by Information Center Manager Jenny Tilos oriented the newly-designated PIOs on their role in communicating public information and capacity-building measures that PIA and ANOPIO.
Amlan PIO John-John Alabata proposed that the group undergo trainings on how to fight fake news and online phishing and other cybercrimes.
Also present during the event are the three incumbent officers of the group, namely: Desiderio Tilos Jr. from Valencia as the current ANOPIO president; Rosalie Ignacio of Sibulan as the treasurer; and Dindo Amorganda of Mabinay as one of the PROs.
Tilos hopes for more productive undertakings of the association.
“I'm looking forward to a fruitful collaboration between ANOPIO and PIA especially in the field of combating fake news and in promoting information that is useful to the public. With the changes in the composition of the members of the association, since we just had the elections, the association has been reinvigorated with new energy,” Tilos said.
“I hope PIOs will be effective in their roles as communicators of development programs and be active in advancing institutional developments within the association. In that way, we can show that the association is relevant especially in these times,” he added.
Also present was Oliver Lemence, the newly-designated PIO of the provincial government here, who expressed the Capitol’s support to association.
“We hope to be working together to strengthen our association. Og naay mga (If there are) LGU concerns sa province or national line agencies, please do not hesitate to call us. We would like to be partners in development information,” Lemence said. (RAL/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
