CEBU CITY, Cebu, Sept. 5 (PIA) -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology Region 7 (DICT7) continues to deliver various programs that aim to provide the public with reliable, affordable, and accessible internet connectivity through the Free Wi-Fi for All-Free Public Internet Access Program.
According to DICT7, there are now 324 free Wi-Fi sites across the region.
DICT continues to put up internet access points in other public areas in Central Visayas with the goal of also providing more people and more government agencies free access to the Internet.
"As of now, daghan natag free Wi-Fi sites diri sa Region 7, but we still need more. That is why we are working with LGUs through our partnership with them so that more areas pa usab ang maka connect sa atong free Wi-Fi nga gi-offer," said DICT7 Regional Director Frederick Amores during the Kapihan sa PIA interview on August 31.
"I am happy to report that we are improving kay sauna behind kay ta but karon na fast track na ang construction of more towers and facilities, but we need more to meet the growing needs of our people," added Amores.
DICT is also in the process of improving the system and strengthening the implementation of the National Broadband Plan in connecting not just the region but the entire country as well by providing Filipinos with faster, wider-reaching, and more affordable Internet services.
The department will also put free Wi-Fi access points in more public areas such as schools, rural health units, and police stations.
DICT’s target for the next six years is to provide free internet access to around 70 million Filipinos.
"The DICT is doing all the efforts to improve our network infrastructure and I hope that our community will cooperate in the construction of this infrastructure so that we can improve our internet connectivity status,” added Amores. (RGC/PIA7 Cebu)
