LGU Sto. Niño to bring back ‘barangayan’ program

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) -- The municipal government of Sto. Niño is set to bring back its ‘barangayan’ program to promote transparency and better services to its residents.

LGU Sto. Niño information officer Chen Mei Estrebilla said, the ‘barangayan’ was established in 2017 pursuant to municipal ordinance No. 2 but was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Estrebilla, Mayor Sulpicio Villalobos already instructed department heads and LGU personnel to prepare and visit the town’s 10 barangays to deliver government services closer to the people.

The program also aims to address issues of the community by identifying development gaps through the provision of needed government intervention.

Residents are set to receive basic medical and social services, as well as access to information at the convenience of their barangays, thereby reducing the cost of access.

This is in line with Mayor Villalobos’ 10-point SOLLYd (Sustainable and Optimal program for Less privileged, Livelihood promotion, and Youth Development) Agenda.

Here is the initial schedule of the Barangayan Program: September 20: Brgy. San Vicente; October 4: Brgy. M. Roxas; October 18: Brgy. Guinsang-an.
