Barangays along Metro Manila waterways receive paddle boats from DENR NCR

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The regional office of the Department of Environment & Natural Resources in the National Capital Region (DENR NCR) has provided paddle boats to barangays along priority waterways of Metro Manila under the Manila Bay Rehabilitation program.

Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan led the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with recipient barangays on the transfer of paddle boats in a ceremony held last Friday, September 16 at the BMB Amphitheater, Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Diliman, Quezon City.

A total of twenty (20) barangays—or 5 barangays each for the 4 administrative areas under the DENR Metropolitan Environmental Offices (MEOs) of Metro Manila—will receive the paddle boats that may be used not only in the cleanup and maintenance of the river or creek under their jurisdiction but in emergency response as well.

Project recipients and representatives from the city governments of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Manila, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasig, Quezon, Taguig, and Valenzuela thank DENR NCR for providing them with the paddle boats which they can use in maintaining cleanliness of rivers and creeks in their area.

DENR NCR is leading efforts to rehabilitate the waterways of Metro Manila to prevent the degradation of Manila Bay.  (DENR NCR/PIA-NCR)
