Barangay visits highlight E. Samar mayor’s 100 days in office

BORONGAN CITY -- To bring the government closer to the people, the local government unit of San Julian launched this month a barangay visit program dubbed ‘Mayor’s Day’ for its 16 barangays.

“What we are doing here, this Mayor’s Day is for you, this is a platform where we could listen to your suggestions and answer your questions about the services offered by the LGU,” said Mayor Dennis Estaron during his visit in Barangay Libas recently.

Some 10 units of electric fans and electrical supplies were turned over to Libas Elementary School, as well as a cheque amounting to P50,000 as an aid to the barangay.

Mayor Estaron shared that in 2016 the allocated cash assistance for each barangay was initially P1,000 only, seeing that the amount was too small and insufficient for a barangay project. He raised the aid gradually until it amounted to P50,000 this year.

To see the actual situation and initiate needed legislation for the benefit of the San Juliananons, Sangguniang Bayan members were also present during the visits.

The department heads or representatives of the different offices of the local government were also in attendance to effectively and efficiently address the issues and concerns related to the programs, projects, and activities being handled by their departments.

Through Mayor’s Day, MDPE holds a meeting in each barangay, listens to the people's problems, and provides "instant solution as long as it is within his reach."

As of this writing, the activity has, so far, reached barangays Bunacan, San Miguel, San Isidro, Pagbabangnan, Lunang, Libas, Putong, and Campidhan. (MMP/VTG/PIA E. Samar)
