PCUP to hold Urban Agriculture Training in NegOr

CEBU CITY, Cebu, Sept. 23 (PIA) -- The Presidential Commission on Urban Poor (PCUP) recently coordinated with the Agriculture Office of the local government of Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental for the upcoming Urban Agriculture Training.

“This is to provide knowledge to the participants on how to plant organic vegetables in using recyclable containers,” said PCUP Visayas Area Coordinator Argelito Guiritan.

In a press release, Guiritan mentioned “it is also a way to help the urban poor communities to learn on urban gardening for them to sustain their daily needs and improved the availability of adequate and safe and nutritious food.”

The meeting was attended by Officer-in-Charge City Agriculturist Maria Victoria  Umbac, Agriculturist 1 Dwight Oliver Arnaiz, and  Urban Agriculture Focal Person Roden Ubarre.

The said meeting was facilitated by Eugene Villana, Community Development Facilitator for Dumaguete City Informal Settler Families (ISF) organizations.

According to PCUP Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Usec. Elpidio Jordan, Jr., the Commission will continue to work and coordinate with other government entities to enhance the knowledge and skills of the urban poor communities through the conduct of trainings.

PCUP serves as a direct link of the urban poor to the government in policy formulation and program implementation addressing their needs.

It coordinates and monitors the implementation of government policies and programs for the urban poor. (HFG/PIA7 with reports from PCUP)
