LGU-Kidapawan steps up production of rice-mongo curls, instant blend

KIDAPAWAN CITY, Cotabato Province (PIA) -- The city government of Kidapawan, through the City Nutrition Council (CNC) intensifies the production of rice-mongo curls and instant blend for consumption of pupils ages two to eight years old in the city.

This was after the face-to-face Technology Transfer Training on the production of DOST- Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI)-developed complementary food technologies conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the workforce of the Kidapawan City Complementary Food Processing Facility (CFPF).

Melanie Espina, city nutrition action officer, said that this move aims to provide enough supply of nutritious food to pupils in public as well as private schools in the city.

“Rice and mung beans contain nutrients like carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals, potassium, and magnesium that our body need,” Espina said adding that these are important for the growth of the children.

The nutrition officer also emphasized that the production of the rice-mongo curls and instant blend is clean and safe.

Meanwhile, it can be noted that the CFPF was launched last year to help Kidapawan City and other neighboring areas in the province recover from health and nutrition crises following the series of earthquakes in 2019 and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DOST XII and DOST- FNRI provided all the equipment to be used in the facility. (With reports from CIO-Kidapawan)
